How the year plays out
Seasons explained
Tenerife's south coast, where most UK holidaymakers stay (Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos), has one of the most stable climates anywhere: daytime highs from around 22°C in winter to 30°C in August, low rainfall and long sunny spells. There is no true off-season. Instead, prices track UK and German demand, and the peaks fall in the UK winter and school holidays rather than in the hottest months.
The most expensive periods are Christmas and New Year, February half term (which also coincides with the Santa Cruz Carnival), Easter and the summer holidays, with August the busiest month. May, June and late September to October are the value windows: the weather is if anything better than in winter, the sea is warmer, and hotels drop their rates between the school-holiday blocks. The north of the island (Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava) is greener, cloudier and a few degrees cooler, which suits walkers more than beach-first families.

Tenerife is the flagship UK school-holiday destination, and each break behaves differently. October half term is the best of them: highs around 28°C, a warm sea, and a premium that, while real, is smaller than February's because the island is not yet in its winter-sun peak. February half term is the priciest short break, as UK, Irish and German winter-sun demand coincides with Carnival week; book early and expect the highest flight prices of the year outside Christmas. Easter is busy but warm and usually cheaper than February. The summer holidays are peak season with August at the top; late August is marginally cheaper than the first fortnight, and the Scottish return to school in mid-August takes some pressure off the final week.
